Nativity Scene, Nativity Set
These beautiful Peruvian nativity boxes are known as Retablo which translates as Altarpiece and are traditionally made by skilled craftsman in Ayacucho in the Peruvian Andes. Each Retablo measures 12 cm wide with doors closed to 25 cm with doors fully open by 24 cm high and 5 cm deep approx. The figures are beautifully crafted and are made of a traditional mix of plaster, cooked potato and newspaper and then painted in wonderful vivid colors and lacquered to finish. They are on two levels. The top one depicts a nativity scene while the bottom level shows scenes of a traditional celebration. Each piece is individually made so they may be slightly variations from the pictures shown here. They look great as a table decoration or on the mantelpiece.
